Delahunt facing name challengers as Republicans try to capitalize on Brown's win

by: Susan H

I've certainly heard the rumors around town that State Senator Bob Hedlund is finally ready to act upon his well known desire to head to Washington by challending incumbent Congressman Bill Delahunt.

The news that other Republicans smell a better than decent chance to snag a Congressional seat in the district which encompasses 'Cranberry Country'~the 'reddest' part of a 'Blue' State' must be keeping Hedlund up at night even more than a parent is with the frequent awakenings of newborns. Yes, Hedlund is now the father of a newborn son~ although, does anyone know if Hedlund and his babymomma are living together with their new child? The Patriot Ledger's gossipy little birth announcement was silent on that part.

However, the Patriot Ledger did have a story in last night's edition which mentioned 5 Republicans, count 'em, 5, who are nearly ready to throw their hat in the ring( 2 already have):

At least five people are considering a run for the 10th Congressional District seat he has held since 1997.

The growing field includes three former and current state office holders - former State Treasurer Joe Malone of Scituate; state Sen. Robert Hedlund, R-Weymouth; and state Rep. Jeff Perry, R-Sandwich - as well as two political newcomers, Don Hussey of Hingham and Ray Kasperowicz of Cohasset.

Hussey and Kasperowicz are the only two who are definite candidates so far.

Joe Malone...Hah! Hedlund must grinding his teeth wondering how Malone, former State Treasurer, with, you know - NAME RECOGNITION - ended up living in the 10th as well as some St. Rep. from the Cape  who will be jointly responsible for pitting one region against the other( North and South) in the 10th. Ahh, the perils of waiting for a perfect opening to run.

It should prove to be quite a summer around here in the 10th Congressional District...... this will be a bloggers dream but also a lot of work for progressives who MUST analyze the Senate race results and get the correct message the voters sent~stay tuned.

Please, please run again (0.00 / 0)
Cong Delahunt we need you now more than ever.

Absolutely....I second that plea (0.00 / 0)
Yet I am nervous because I think one of the strongest messages from the Senate election is that the base and the democratic leaning unenrolled are using a metric of CHANGE and it seems that one measurement is how much more CHANGE has the  democratic individual candidate stood for/produced in contrast to President Obama who has not lived up to his campaign rhetoric and has coddled conserva dems over those on the progressive side of the dial.

Delahunt has a great record across the board: on Iraq, on the bailout( he was aginst it thank God!), on standing for the public option by signing the progressive  congressional caucus letter saying he would not vote  for a health care bill without one and this record goes on and on.

We need his service.

scootermom forwarded a link to me and normally, neither she nor I would EVER (0.00 / 0)
link to a Howie Carr column but when he points out Republican hack 'o'rama and Bobby Hedlund is front and center......Well, I'll make an exception :)

Link here

Yup, even Howie Carr knows Bobby Hedlund is chanting a mantra: "if Scott can get to Washington so can I"

" I don't have a truck but I know how to fix trucks"

Really?????

Maybe, because he sure can't legislate.
